The main aim of the joint master’s and PhD degree program in Sustainable development and governance: global and regional contexts is training of top level managers and system analysts who will be able to make decisions in scientifically grounded and practically reasonable ways in state administrations (both on state or municipal levels), companies and enterprises towards regional sustainable development taking in the consideration global processes.

Program provides theoretical knowledge, methodological models as basic tools for practitioners, scientists, engineers and graduate students who wish to proceed their graduate training to advanced expert and scientific level (with other advanced certificates or doctoral programs). Necessary blocks (courses, researches) directed on PhD training program are envisaged for this purpose within the program. Students who graduate from training of master’s program successfully and wish to proceed with education and research are admitted for PhD program tacitly.

Therefore, one more target for the program’s students is the preparation to next educational phase: defence of PhD thesis after obligated defence of master’s thesis on administrative management. Preparation and defence PhD thesis is possible in three areas (specialities):

  • 01.05.04 — System Analysis and Optimal Decisions Theory
    (for students who are interested in advanced training and research in the fields of system analytics and special sections of mathematics in sustainable development context);
  • 08.00.04 — Economics and Operation of Business
    (for students who are focused on research in the area of economics);
  • 09.00.03 — Social Philosophy and Philosophy of History
    (for students who are focused on social phenomenon and processes in sustainable development context);
  • 21.06.01 — Ecological Safety
    (for students who are focused on research in the area of environmental sustainability). 

The educational program consists of normative part (7 credits of mandatory courses), variant part (30 credits of mandatory courses) and 5 credits of optional courses, which depend on student’s speciality and their orientation on subsequent researches within preparation of PhD thesis. The program foresees 36 credits on scientific and research study and preparation of master’s thesis. Students should collect 73 credits within 2 years of training to get master’s educational-scientific level. Students who wish to proceed with education and research by the PhD program should collect 78 credits.

Master trained in the field of “Sustainable Development and Governance: Global and Regional Contexts” should:

  • be able to contribute positively into development of sustainable society due to effective management and decision-making on state’s, municipal’s, company’s or enterprise’s level by investigation of plenty of problems, ideas, rules and approaches which determine the state of global society, studying its norms, its growing role, and also political, social, economic, ecological and ethics consequences;
  • stimulate changes in the society towards sustainable development by providing citizens of competent information, knowledge, abilities and tools.

 

Master should demonstrate:

  • ability to use the purchased knowledge and qualifying abilities in the wide range of situations both for the analysis of problems and for making of effective decisions;
  • ability to select, design and use the set of well-known tools and conceptions as part of the strategic approach to sustainable development;
  • ability to use powerful modern methods for providing sustainable development in practice;
  • enhanced leadership capabilities and ability to inform society and to form its public opinion about the necessity of society’s sustainable development due to effective organizational approaches, improved presentations, modern tools and coaching skills.

 

Master’s knowledge and skills after graduating of the offered program allow holding of followings oriented positions:

  1. Research worker on system analytics, ecological safety and social philosophy of sustainable development;
  2. System analyst on sustainable development problems in the city, region, area, country management;
  3. Consultant and expert on sustainable development management in state administrations of different levels;
  4. Manager and administrator on sustainable development of large companies, enterprises, establishments, organizations and their subsections;
  5. Expert on sustainable development in the sphere of external economic connections.
