Michael Z. Zgurovsky, born in 1950, is a full member of National academy of sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Engineering, professor, member of Presidium of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Rector of the national technical university of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute”, Director of the Institute for Applied Systems Analysis of the National academy of sciences of Ukraine and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
Michael Zgurovsky is a well known scientist in the area of Mathematics and Systems Analysis. He offered a new approach to the theory of extremum problems of nonlinear operator, differential operator equations and inclusions, as well as variational inequalities in the banach space. He made axiomatic research of nonlinear multiple-valued mappings and in their terms were identified the properties of resolving operators in the systems consisting of operator and differential operator equations. Also the conditions of the solubility and properties of the solution of the extremum problems were identified, their weak expansion and requirement of optimality were built in the form of variational inequalities, methods of regularization were developed and the approximate schemes were substantiated.
Theoretical results were brought to algorithm-based and program-technical realization, which enabled to solve the range of urgent problems of nonlinear hydraulic gas dynamics, unsteady-state problems of diffusion and heat-and-mass transfer. He developed the instrument for analysis and simulation of abnormal, disbalanced physical processes, known in the nature as “heat islands”, “whirlwinds”, etc.
Under the scientific guidance of Michael Zgurovsky the Branch of World Data Center was established as an affiliate of WDC “B” of the Geophysical Center of Russian Academy of Sciences. This branch specializes in the area of Geoinformatics, in such sections as Physics of Solid Earth, Solar Physics, Oceanography, as well as in the area of Sustainable Development Global Simulation and Global Assessment of Threats for Safety and Quality of Life of People.
Michael Zgurovsky is a member of many Ukrainian and foreign scientific communities. He is the member of the board of EDNES (Strasbourg, France), National representative of Ukraine in the International Council for Science (ICSU, Paris, France), National representative of Ukraine in the CODATA and member of its executive committee (Paris, France), Member of the governing council of the Institute of UNESCO on Informational Technologies in Education (Moscow, Russia), President of the Black Sea University Network (BSUN, Constance, Romania).
Michael Zgurovsky is the honorary doctor of the St. Petersburg State Technician University, Byelorussian State Technician University, Kharkov National Technician University “Kharkov Polytechnic University”. He is the honoured Scientist and Technologist of the Ukraine. Three times laureate of the State prize of Ukraine in the area of Science and Technology (in 1990, 1999, 2005), Glushkov (1994) and Michalevich (1998) prizes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
For the achievements in the area of Science, Education, and Developments of the International Cooperation Michael Zgurovsky is conferred with three Orders of Merit – of the third degree (1996), second degree (1998), first degree (2005), order for the merits for the Republic of Italy (1996), Silver Medal of St. George of Ukraine “Honour, Fame, Work” (2001), “Golden Sign of Valour of People's republic of Poland” (1995), order “Maarjamaa Risti” of the third degree of the Republic of Estonia, Academician Sadovsky Medal of the Institute of the Physics of the Earth of the RAS.
Michael Zgurovsky trained 6 doctors, 30 candidates of science. He is the author, co-author of more than 300 of scientific works, including 28 monographs and textbooks, published in Germany, Poland, Japan, Ukraine and other countries of the world. He is the chief editor of the journal “Systems Researches and Informational Technologies” of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Michaell Zgurovsky continues to develop and strengthen the creative relations of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine with the Russian Academy of Sciences.
In 2008 Michael Zgurovsky was elected as a foreign member of RAS (Russian academy of scineces) Department of Geoinformatics of the RAS Branch for Earth Sciences.
